Why the limit of 86° FOV in GPLShift??

In GEM for GPL, we can set the FOV at up to 120° (although it says 179°), but that's only possible to use if GPL in not patched with GPLShift. I can't run GPL without the other features of GPLShift, of course.

Why can't GPLShift go up to 120° or wider? The ini states "Field Of View in degrees: minimun 45.2 - max. 86.2"
