Do you mean that you're using the sequential shifter rather than the H-pattern?
For sequential shifting, Up- and Down-shifts are assigned in-game. What Sim is it? If you're using it as an H-shifter, GPLShift should assign all gates fo the shifter to gear numbers. Or else that too is assigned in-game.

i have tried as best as i could going over each post and the readme file on how to get the shifter working on my new G25 in GPL. i have used the GPLshift program for years (thank you!) on my act labs force RS, but have switched to Vista and now the G25.
i have tried several ignorant attempts at modifying the standard GPLshift.ini file with no luck as of yet.
no matter what i try, when i go in-game, the shifter does not work at all. the right paddle puts it in 5th gear as long as i hold it up. there are four red buttons above the shifter that are 1st-4th gear (as long as i depress them). so GPL clearly sees the shifter device, but not the stick itself.
i have correctly installed GPLshift 0740, and this is acknowledged in-game when i get to the driving screen down on the bottom in neon green lettering.
in-game, i have tried to set it up by shifting to 1st gear/2nd gear position (left up/down) as well as 3rd/4th gear position (straight up/down) in case that matters. i'm not sure which one is correct.
i do not know if there are different configurations of the G25, but mine has the pedals and shifter plug directly under the wheel, which in turn is plugged via USB into my PC.
at this point, it is clear to me that the answer must lie in the GPLshift.ini file somewhere. i currently have it back on the default 'auto' setting for the top option, as well as all other default settings.
i have tried '1.USB', '2.USB', and '3.USB' under 'Shifter_Model', but none have worked.
sorry for the lengthy post and probable meaningless fluff, but i am trying to give you as much info as possible to head-off any questions you may have.
thank you again. long live GPL.

yaj eflow, it's time to restart the controller configuration. The auto setting in GPLShift should be correct. Here's what to do.
1) in your player folder, find controls.cfg and rename it to _controls.cfg or delete it. Restarting GPL creates a new file. 2) start GPL and you'll be in the calibrate joystick screen. 3) run the wheel and pedals through their ranges (you might need to hit the little arrow on the bottom to see the second or third calibration screen) 4) hit OK to go to the assign axes screen. 5) do not do anything with the shifter here, just assign the wheel and pedal axes. Assign the look right/left buttons (unless you have activated this feature in GPLShift - in which case do nothing)
This should get the shifter running. If not, let us know here.

Bob- i followed your instructions to the 'T'. i unpatched and repatched it three times. i deleted the controls.cfg file at least five times. i deleted it prior to running the GPLshift.exe. i also deleted it after running GPLshift.exe. twice. i set the controls all up several times, never changing the the default "KP+" and "KP-" for shifting. i ran GPLshift with the stick in neutral. i also ran it with the stick in first, just on the odd chance that was it. i changed the side view to the paddles each time, too. still, when pressing the right paddle, it will shift into 5th gear and the four red buttons still are used for 1st thru 4th gears no matter what i do. i just reread your instructions for the 4th time. the only thing i have not done is to completely delete the controls.cfg file instead of just renaming it. i will do that next, but i'm not expecting it to change the results i have seen thus far. the only odd thing that has happened - and it happens every time - is that after running a practice and going back to the pits, as soon as i hit the 'red' button, i get a CTD error. i can start it back up just fine and do not have to re-assign anything, and the GPLshift green verification is still present. i do not think this has a negative effect, as a result. at this point, maybe i just do a complete re-install, as i have followed everything as stated.
thank you for your assitance. i won't re-install just yet, in case you have another idea.

Next thought is to make sure that the Logitech Profiler is turned off, if you have it open now. Right click on the W icon in the tooltray > exit.

bob- nothing worked, so i did a complete re-install and installed with the GPLPA's excellent installer program.
results?
sweet as. the shifter nows works like a charm. now to get dialed in on the wheel. i ran a quick race at watkins glen and did consistant 1:10.7s. i used to be able to camp out in the 1:08s, so this will take some getting used to. to blow the suspense - jim clark won it by quite a bit. shocking.
thanks again for your help. hopefully this thread will help others in the future.
