Hi, *JSJ*. I'm using your GPLShift 0.521 (first use of your program) and cannot get the shift function to work under XP Home Edition. Everything else works great (I *love* the 16-axis bit, before I got GPLShift I'd lose my pedals if I had anything more than wheel & pedals hooked up! Thanks!!!)
My system is:
GPL 1.2.0.1 GPLShift 0.521 Dell 4100, P3@933mHz, 512mb Dual Boot, Win XP/Win ME Act Labs Force RS CH USB Pro Pedals Act Labs GPL Shifter
No matter what I do the shifter will not change gears with your patch when I run GPL under XP. (Under ME though it runs perfect!) I have messed with gplshift.ini trying every possible combination of options with no effect. If I take a .ini that works under ME, it will not work under XP.
I have even disconnected everything but the shifter and still it won't shift.
Can you offer any help to get the shifter working under XP? (I really hate booting to ME since I got XP!)
TIA for any help you can give!
Regards,
Lee

Hi Lee
Can you see the Shifter name in XP START/Control Panel/Printer and Other Hardware/Game Controllers:
"ACT LABS GPL USB Shifter"
or
"Human Interface device" (I thing)
or?
Have you tried with "Shifter_Version = 1.USB" or 2.USB, 3.USB

Hi, *JSJ*
Thanks for your fast reply!
Yes, the shifter is showing up in the Game Controllers panel as ACT LABS GPL USB Shifter, and all the buttons test OK when I do Properties/Test. Also the shifter works great when I run ALShift. So I know there's no problem with the shifter.
I've tried setting Shifter_Version AUTO, and from 0.USB through 4.USB (I know you didn't list 0.USB but I said "Nothing else works, why not try?")
Here's the .ini that works with Win ME (I've left out comments to save space):
Shifter_Version = AUTO Shifting_Behaviour = 6 Switch_Between_Modes = OFF Clutch_Threshold = 0 Clutch_Shift_Sound = OFF [ CAR RESET ]------------------------------------------------------------------ Button_Number = OFF [ REPLAY START/STOP ]---------------------------------------------------------- Button_Number = OFF [ LOOK LEFT/RIGHT ]------------------------------------------------------------ Left_Right_Mode = OFF Look_Left45d_Button = Look_Left85d_Button = Look_Left135d_Button = Look_Right45d_Button = Look_Right85d_Button = Zoom_In_Out_Mode = OFF Zoom_Out_Button = Zoom_In_Button = Zoom_Reset_Button = Share_All_16_AXIS = 1 DisableUSBshifter2AXIS = 1
Using the same .ini with XP, it does not work. I've tried substituting all possible #.USB for Shifter_Version, (Think I even tried some #.RSW values) and also several different values for Shifting_Behaviour without success.
I have the following files from your installation in my GPL folder:
GPLPATCH.EXE GPLSHIFT.DLL GPLSHIFT.INI
Any ideas where I should go from here?

Lee

OK, I'll wait for 0.530 and see how it works.
Just let me know what you need from me, to help test it out under XP.

OK, I got 0.530 and have tried all morning to get it working - no luck It is the same with 0.521, does not matter how I set Shifter_Version (tried 'em all), Shifting_Behaviour, Share_All_16_AXIS or DisableUSBshifter2AXIS. Also I could not get the zoom function working (I *thought* I had that working under XP when I first got GPLShift, but it *may* have been under ME. It's not something I use, I just tried it then turned back off) I tried #.BUT with # = 1 to 4, and #.POV with # = 1 - 4 and it wouldn't work. I don't know anything about it, but I'm thinking XP handles device ID differently from 9X/ME and your patch isn't finding the right device to read from. (It bothers me that you can't see or assign ID's in Game Controller panel!) This afternoon I'm going to a friend's house with my Force RS and GPL Shifter. I'll see if it works on his XP box - maybe it's just some strange problem with my system.

Try with a Repatching under WinXP Run GPLpatch.exe, you should see some message:
"I SEEMS WE HAVE PATCHED BEFORE......" Click Yes, you should then see
"WE HAVE MAKE A SUCCESSFUL UnPATCHING..." click Ok
Then run patch.exe again, and you should see
"THIS IS A PATCH, WHICH........"
Click Ok , and hopefully see
"WE HAVE MAKE A SUCCESS PATCHING..."
then start GPL.EXE and see thats happen

Sorry, I should have said in the last post that I did the Unpatch then Repatch and it still didn't work. I also tried restoring the original GPL.exe (which I had made a copy of, before I installed the 1st GPLShift patch) and then installing 0.530 on that. No luck there either.
I'm off to my friend's house now with my Force RS & shifter (He's thinking about getting the shifter and wants to try it out) He is also running XP, I'll see if it works on his system. I'll let you know what happens when I get back.

Hi *JSJ*,
Just got back from my friend's house, I tried GPLShift 0.530 on his XP system and it worked PERFECTLY!! Still won't work on mine. Only difference is he is using GPL 1.2.0.2 speed patch since he's on a 2.2gHz system, and I'm using GPL 1.2.0.1, and I think he also has the disconnect patch installed.
So I guess the problem is just on my system. Maybe I'll try a complete uninstall/reinstall of GPL and see if that fixes it.
Thanks for all your help!

OK, I didn't want to but I did a complete uninstall of GPL, deleted the Sierra\GPL folder, followed by reinstall, patch to 1.2.0.1, reinstall D3D patch then finally patch with GPLShift 0.530.
IT WORKS!!!!! ;D
Now all I gotta do is reinstall all my tracks, new car graphics, track patches etc.
But anyway it is working now!

Hello Lee
I have tested almost all diff. version of GPL.EXE with 0.521 under XP/98SE > US/UK/SP/IT/GE/FR version 1.2.0.1 & 1.2.0.1 = NO PROBLEMS
And v0.530: US/UK/SP 1.2.0.1 /.2 Also OK But I haven't install any Add-On, except JF Carset 1.2 I will try to find the disconn. patch, but I don't think it will giv any problem, because it don't make any change in the code I have modify (as I remember it)
Do you still have that GPL.EXE there gives the trouble?

Hi, *JSJ*
As I said in my last msg, I finally got GLPShift 0.530 working by completely removing Grand Prix Legends from my system, deleting its folder, then reinstalling it. I then put on the GPL 1.2.0.1 patch and the Direct 3D driver so I could get it running on my system, then I ran your gplpatch.exe v0.530 and tested it out - it worked PERFECTLY!
(In answer to your question, I do not have the GPL.EXE that was giving the trouble. I deleted everything in c:\sierra\gpl folder before reinstalling.)
I am slowly adding back my carsets, add-on tracks and track updates. I test to make sure your shifter patch still works after installing each one. If I find one that causes it to stop working, I'll let you know which one it was.
I also have several editor type programs, like Race Length Editor, a couple of AI editors and camera editors, GPL Race Engineer, etc. I'll do those last, and let you know if one of them kills your patch.
I am assuming it must have been one or more of these add-on things I'd used that kept it from working, since it worked fine on a clean install of Grand Prix Legends.
Regards,
Lee

Hi *JSJ*
Have reinstalled the following add-ons, and GPLShift is still working perfectly!
Cars:
GPLEA Eagle 2.1 GPLEA Ferrari 1.2 GPLEA Lotus 1.2 Bruce Johnson's Lotus 49 v2 w/required files
Add-on Tracks:
Adelaide (Jim Pearson) Dolomiti (Mark Beckman) Imola (Dave Noonan) Lemans Sarthe Lemans Bugatti Milano Osterreichring (Dave Noonan)
Track Updates:
GPLEA Monza 1.1
This is about everything I had installed before, when GPLShift would not work. I dunno, maybe my gpl.exe was damaged or something the 1st time I tried to use GPLShift, and the GPL reinstall got me a good copy. I really wish I'd not deleted the gpl.exe that was giving trouble, maybe that would have given you the answer!
Thanks for all your time & help, *JSJ*, it's appreciated!!!!
