Hi, I just started using the Gearshift+ v0.521 alpha utility in Grand Prix Legends. I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. Everything seems fine – the clutch and wheel work as expected, except for the shift patterns. The gears are as follows (N = neutral):
Options 1, 2, 3, 7 1 3 3 N 2 4 4 N
Option 4 R 1 1 N N 2 2 N
Option 5 1 3 3 N N 2 2 N
Option 6 R 1 1 N N 2 2 N
I have the Act-Labs Performance pedals with clutch and Force RS wheel. On the wheel, none of the buttons are mapped to anything.
The Gas and Brake are plugged into the wheel body, the shifter is plugged into the shifter cartridge on the wheel body, all shown as controller #1 and the clutch is connected by USB to the computer and shows as controller #2.
In GPLshft.ini, I use Shifter_Version = AUTO, Shifting_Behaviour = 1, and everything else is off or set to 0. The same problem exists when I try to use AL shift, too.
My system is P3-800, Geforce 256DDR, Win98 SE, USB connectors.

Hello Bob_Simpson I think your Shifter can have a hardware fault, because you also have problem with ALSHIFT So go to ACT LABS tech support, and ask them for a advice. www.act-labs.com/assoc1.htmI don't know that version you have of the Shifter, but if it is the USB Shifter, then try a little test in Windows(98se) Gaming Options/Controlers, click at ACT LABS USB Shifter, and Properties, move the Shifter slow to diff. SLOTs e.g: 3 5 7, 4 6 8 and see how the lamps ack. The 8 SLOT metal plate: 1....3....5....7 2....4....6....8 *JSJ*

Bob,
Deffinetly looks like there's a switch not working inside the shifter.
I had to open up mine to fix a problem with shifting in 5th, most time it would think it was in 3rd. it was a rather simple mather of adjusting the bending in one of springny metal piece.
When the shifter is in neutral, you should hear on click when moving left, and 2 clicks when moving right. I'll bet you only here one, mabe the metal piece is not pressing hard enough or it went too far and is now passed the switch. Or it could simply be a defect switch.
If you're the Bob Simpson I know, a drive up to my place with a six pack should help you solved this problem ;D

Hi Steve, I'm the Bob Simpson that you know, for sure. Yeah I'd like to have your expertise in fixing this, if it can be done without going back to Act-Labs. I'll hop on my Ski-Doo and cross the Ottawa River to your place shortly. I'll be in touch.

If anyone's interested in how this came out - your mention of fixing the Act-Labs shifter made me decide to try it myself and I'm sorry but you won't be getting any beer out of this right now. I fixed it, once I found all the screws to take the cover off.
Just take out the four very small screws on the sides of the cover and the bigger one at the back, near the wire to get the cover off.
It was a little bent metal part, that pushes a little switch, just as you said. It was bent a little too much and was missing the switch. Thanks for the encouragement. Anytime you'd like to drop over, I'll have some beers for you here. What's your favourite brand?
If you and I had the same problem, it must be fairly common. I hate the thought of sending it back to Act-Labs when I can fix it myself in ten minutes.
