v0.505 problem with view buttons

I have just installed v0.505 and it works fine under WinME until I try to set up the view buttons.  I have two controllers on my PC, #1 is my Force RS/Shifter, #2 are my BRD Pedals with a 4-button joystick.  I want to use 3 of the buttons on the joystick for the zoom in/out and zoom reset options.  When I set up the bottom section as follows GPL crashes as soon as it starts up:

Left_Right_Mode = 2.BUT

Look_Left45d_Button =       ;Select a number for LOOK LEFT  in  45 degree  

Look_Left85d_Button =       ;Select a number for LOOK LEFT  in  85 deg.    

Look_Left135d_Button =      ;Select a number for LOOK LEFT  in 135 in deg  

Look_Right45d_Button =      ;Select a number for LOOK RIGHT in  45 degree  

Look_Right85d_Button =      ;Select a number for LOOK RIGHT in  85 deg.    

Look_Right135d_Button =     ;Select a number for LOOK RIGHT in 135 deg.    

Zoom_Out_Button = 0          ;Select a # for zoom out the left/front/right view

Zoom_In_Button = 1           ;Select a # for zoom in the left/front/right view

Zoom_Reset_Button = 2        ;Select a # for reset zoom to nomaly view

Is it possible to only assign a few of these buttons?

Yes it is possible to assign some of Look L/R & Zoom, just
keep the other lines empty
Zoom should run with that config, and runs OK with my 2 Pc's
under Win98se (ForceRS & RS Shifter ID1, LW FF Joys. ID2)

GPL crash, your say, when you start GPL up? in what menu?
please tell me more, so I have a better change to search after possible bugs,
And show me your complete GPLshift.ini

TEST:
Try 1.BUT (with other buttons# e.g 2,3,4,7,9 -11), 2.POV
(if your Joys. have Point Of View hat) same problem?

PS: I will split the Look_Right_Mode and Zoom functions up in to parts, in next GPLShift vers., so you can e.g use ForceRS  buttons to LOOK and 2nd gamedev. to Zoom

The GPL crash occurred when the program was trying to display the first menu page after the startup screen.

As an experiment I tried using a third joystick that had a POV button.  This worked but GPL didin't recognise my second joystick so I had no pedals.

I haven't tried using the buttons on joystick #1 yet.
